Microbiology and Immunology The Department of Microbiology and Immunology invites applications for faculty positions at all levels. We are looking for investigators with strong research programs in microbiology and immunology that would complement existing research interests in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology. In the area of microbiology, we are seeking candidates whose research interests are broadly defined as molecular and cell biology of bacterial pathogens and/or host/pathogen interactions. In the area of immunology, we are seeking candidates whose research interests are in molecular and cellular aspects of inflammatory/autoimmune diseases, and in mechanisms of immune regulation including tolerance and induction/resolution of inflammatory processes. Candidates are expected to establish/maintain vigorous research programs. Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to excellence in educating graduate and professional students. Attractive laboratory space, including a new BSL-3 facility, is available for the appointed investigators. The members of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology are supported by extensive peer-reviewed funding. The Department has a strong graduate program supported by an NIH Training Grant. To compile and/or supervise the compilation of, regulatory dossiers in accordance with EU and other national requirements for the approval of products.? The Department of Anthropology at The Pennsylvania State University seeks an Evolutionary Developmental Geneticist at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with a research program that focuses on the role of developmental programs in human evolution. The successful candidate will use methods and techniques of evolutionary-developmental biology including but not limited to comparative anatomy, evolutionary and comparative genomics and bioinformatics, computational biology, experimental or functional genetics in model animal or cell systems to shed light on the evolution and development of morphological and physiological phenotypes in humans and model organisms. Chair, Department of Developmental Biology University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is seeking a strong academic leader to chair a new Department of Developmental Biology. This Department will provide a readily identifiable provenance for focused research in the broad area of developmental biology and will bring together a critical mass of researchers focusing on embryonic development and employing molecular tools and model organisms to advance the field of comparative molecular embryology. The founding chair will have an outstanding start-up package to establish the Department, which initially will comprise nine to ten full-time, primary faculty members and many secondary faculty members from the Departments of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, Cell Biology and Physiology, Pharmacology and Chemical Biology, Neurobiology, Pediatrics, Computational Biology, Structural Biology, and Bioengineering. The research mission of the Department will be to investigate the basic mechanisms underlying organ and system development, tissue maintenance, and aging. Research themes will include comparative genomics and proteomics, developmental immunobiology, and developmental neurobiology. A particular focus on stem cell biology is envisioned. The Department will be located within state-of-the-art research facilities being built by the Children??s Hospital of Pittsburgh at a new campus. The chair will have access to existing genomics and proteomics technologies, animal model systems (zebrafish and engineered mouse facilities), advanced imaging technologies, and databases and resources in computational and structural biology.
